The world of motorcycles is always interesting and this week sees a recall, a new Lotus bike and a a Royal Enfield concept motorcycle on the cards.

Lotus motorcycle

Lotus Motorcycles have designed their new C-01 hyper bike. The motorcycle manufacturers have officially begun work on their C-01 bike, which boasts futuristic design and high-end technology.

The motorcycle bears an uncanny resemblance to the famous Light cycle from the film Tron and will be made using materials like carbon, titanium and aerospace-quality steel. To make the project a reality, Lotus Motorcycles joined forces with Kodewa, a firm which recently built the new Lotus T128 LMP, Le Mans Prototype sports car and is behind the Lotus LMP2 program in the FIA World Endurance Championship. Lotus Motorcycles have also teamed up with designer Daniel Simon who formerly worked for Bugatti Automobiles and created the ‘Light cycle’ in the 2010 Disney film, Tron:Legacy.

Daniel Simon commented, “With the Lotus C-01, we have only one ambition: to create a unique state-of-the-art machine that carries its brutal forces with elegance and style, a high-tech monster in a tailored suit.”

The production process of the Lotus C-01 motorcycle will be carried out by the Holzer Group, which is experienced in professional motorsport, having worked across the German Touring car Championship DTM, German Rally Championship and Formula 1. Components for the model will be produced by RPC GmbH, which is part of the Holzer Group and Kodewa.

Yamaha recalling R1 and Super Tenere motorcycles

The Japanese motorcycle manufacturer, Yamaha, has issued a recall for it’s 2009-2013 YZF-R1 sportbikes and it’s 2012-2013 Super Tenere models due to a risk of headlight failure caused by overheating. At the moment the recall is isolated to 19,045 R1 units and 4,683 Super Tenere units in the US. The problem was first found by Yamaha Motor Company in Japan, the US subsidiary being alerted on January 31st.

According to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA), heat generated by the headlight bulb socket may cause the terminal ends to expand, resulting in an arcing between the terminal connector and bulb contact. This defect may cause the socket to overheat and melt, resulting in headlight malfunction.

To solve the issue, Yamaha dealers will inspect recalled units and replace the headlight socket with a new rewired part.

Royal Enfield concept motorcycle

The Royal Enfield brand is usually associated with cafe racer, bullet-style bikes with retro aestetics, yet the new Royal Enfield Pioneer concept is anything but. The concept retains none of the usual styling, as it’s a fresh look at the evolution of the e-motorcycle.

The concept motorcycle is designed for new riders with a self-balancing system/autonomous riding mode that gives it a sort of ‘sixth sense’ that helps train newbies and none experienced rider’s skills. Though it is unlikely the model will become a production motorcycle.
